What have I achieved this week?
Since my last construction crew update I actually feel rather proud of myself as far as progress and productivity goes in the hunt for employment, education and just finding my feet in general – especially considering the amount of emotional rubbish last week. It’s a long one (oi oi) this week but shhh…just skim and tell me you’re proud at the end. I wouldn’t know the difference 😉
Interviews: I had my interview last Monday and got a call back within an hour of getting home asking to meet again (today) for an informal chat to discuss responsibilities and hours etc so hopefully that’s gone well and I could have a job by the end of the day…
Its care work -including occasional personal care which I have never done professionally before but I have a bit of experience from family life etc. I was honest with her, it was quite a relaxed interview and told her its possible I would pull weird faces when presented with situations but to just ignore my face and to know that its through me being a little squeamish rather than me being disgusted etc – she laughed.
Regardless of comments like that from me I did get the call back so I must have done something right 🙂
I am a little worried about offending her though, I haven’t really much experience of working with or just being around disabled people in general – see I don’t even know if that’s the right term to use I’m sure I will learn quite quickly what’s acceptable and what’s not – of course I would never say anything purposely negative or hurtful I’m just not sure of what is ‘politically correct’ I suppose or socially acceptable…maybe someone could give me a dos and don’ts for working with someone with a disability?
Apprenticeship: At the job fair last weekend there was some information about apprenticeships. I love learning, I love the idea of gaining certificates at the end of something…If only we could get one for learning LIFE lessons lol. Anyway, I looked them up, applied for one and then withdrew my application in less than 24 hours.
.
The idea of gaining qualifications AND experience AND getting paid for it is amazing BUT the hours were more than full time and the pay was minimal… I had to do some soul searching but came to the conclusion that if I were working those hours…I would rather get paid fully for it. The apprenticeship was for something I could do easily – I just don’t have the qualification to add to my CV. I figured if I wanted a job in that industry THAT much I could always do an online course for the sake of a certificate and simultaneously earn a reasonable wage elsewhere.
Applications: There is one other job which I really want to hear back from, its an easy one and its close to home but their closing date for applications is another week or 2 away so only time will tell. I’ve continued sending others out, just to cover my back I suppose and keep my options open…go me! 🙂
Blogging schedule: Seems to be helping me feel a little less swamped. I’m not sticking to it religiously but its always in the back of my mind as a guideline for where I should be at throughout the week.
Online Courses: Again at the job fair there was info about free online courses, training and help with CV writing. I signed up for a call back and on Wednesday went in to have a chat with the guy about what I could do. He polished my CV for me there and then, adding bits, rewording and just tweaking bits here and there – massive weight lifted! I had slogged over that CV for ages, worrying about what I need in there and what I don’t need and within an hour it was done (and he didn’t change that much either which boosted my confidence a little)
Unfortunately it turns out I am too old to be eligible for any of the (free) courses….(ouch!) but I’ve put my name down for a first aid training course in a few months (which is free…free free free I know but if you can get it for nothing then why not?) Regardless I got my CV done (yes for free lol) and got to have a nice chat with the guy (wink wink) so it definitely wasn’t a wasted trip 🙂
Crew members: Still trying to get round as many of you as possible as often as I can
Boxes: So far I have sorted maybe 5 out of maybe 13 boxes; I managed to whittle some stuff down but the rest had stuff that simply needs to be kept out there -like my husbands snowboard and the little shoe clip things etc. I did, however find a big box of painting goodies which gave me an instant boner! (lol) so maybe this weekend I will sit in the garden (if its still nice) and get creative…and messy! Yay!
Dentist: hasn’t happened… it will though
Dentist: Yeah right! Its not happened, the appointment is no where near close to being made but I WILL do it…which brings me on to this weeks goals 9cheating a little bit really but…shhh lol)
Goals for this week
- MAKE THAT DENTIST APPOINTMENT!!!
- Finish sorting those boxes
- Focus on my HOME…its not a mess per say but it could do with a bit of a sort out
xBx
